Mr Kimura, I have a couple of old Cifra 5 clocks, one has a faulty solenoid and the minute gear was broken too. I have taken the brass gear out of that clock to fix the other clock.
These Cifra clocks seem to have a mixture of plastic and brass gears.
MFG oder kind regards, Raymond _________________ Raymond RF. Electric clocks are great ! |

Mr Kimura,
I have 2 Cifra 12's as well, and replaced 2 of those plastic gears with the brass ones i have from the old broken Cifra 5.
Pity that a good clock has sometimes substandard materials in them.
the older Cifra's usually have brass gears, may find a junk one on ebay.
Old copier machines can sometimes yield good mechanical parts, old junk shops and modelshops as you already suggested.
In my clock collection i have 2 Cifra 12's, 6 Cifra 5's and 1 Dator 5.
I will post a photo of the other gear which sometimes fail too if they are made from plastic.

I fixed the problem with the broken plastic gear with one from www.conrad.de
The article number is: 236926
The only i had to do was to make a small sleeve, because the inner diameter of the new gear is 4mm and not 3,2mm like the original gear. |

Hi Rodalco
I'm an admirer of your photos. In fact, reading about the Solari Dator 5 on here made me want to own one, so I bought one from eBay and had it shipped from Italy to the Netherlands.
Some pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/adamdorrell/sets/72157607613712724/
I managed to nurse it back to health (had a stuck month number).
Interestingly, it has different gearing and electric clock mechanism to yours. More metal, less plastic. I wonder if it's earlier.
Do you know if there is any documentation?
Regards
Adam |

Hi Adam,
Great you got a Dator 5 calendar clock too.
It is a great piece of Italian engineering.
Your clock is older, late 50's or early 60's with full metal gear train, for 24 hour wheel and calendar wheels.
These clocks can be a bit tricky to adjust, but if you watch how the levers, pawls and gears work, you should be able to work out what drives which part of the clock.
The gears sometimes may have slipped a little on the steel shafts. They are made like Meccano gears and can be loosened with the little grub screw at the collar.
Mine is a slave clock ( Nebenuhr) and controlled by a master clock which provides 1 minute impulses to the solenoid coil.
Yours has a synchronous motor which possibly drives a main spring to a clock work mechanism.
Let me know what problems you have.
I will make a clip of my Dator 5 and put in on Youtube and let you know.
